Melbourne Cup Lunch at The Colonist

Join us at The Colonist for the race that stops the nation! Gather your friends or colleagues for the Melbourne Cup Lunch where you will enjoy the best in South Australian Pub food and drinks.

Enjoy your Melbourne Cup Lunch at this Adelaide Pub where you can accompany the special A La Carte or 3 course set menu with a glass of sparkling, a cold beer or a gin fizz cocktail. In addition, our $25 cocktail jugs are the perfect choice when sharing with friends!

After the race has finished, settle in for the afternoon with Johnny Lee playing laid back acoustic tunes from 3-6pm. Then, if you’re feeling up for it stay around for dinner and drinks to finish off the day.

The History of Melbourne Cup

Flemington was fairly basic in the early days with little in the way of running rails or stands. The Melbourne Cup quickly became popular as a carnival with picnic parties, sideshows, celebrations and people showing off their latest fashions. Socialites, politicians and Australia’s rich and famous attended the Cup right from the earliest days. In 1861, at the first running of the Melbourne Cup, the race club committee could hardly have envisaged the Cup lasting a century and a half and growing to become a significant part of our social and sporting culture. – read more on the fascinating history of the Melbourne Cup.
